St. John’s College Masterplan
Location: Annapolis, MD
Status: Completed 2009
St. John’s College is a private, liberal arts college that dates back to the 18th century, located on 27 acres in downtown Annapolis. Paul Josey, while working at NBW, led and managed the landscape design portion of the master plan.
Enabling greater student interaction, the master plan developed a series of new mid sized outdoor gathering and reading spaces. Overlooking College Creek, a tributary of the Severn River, the landscape master plan also developed strategies to better connect with its waterfront by strengthening views to the water, increasing riparian plantings along a proposed boardwalk, reducing stormwater runoff and restoring overall campus canopy. The multi-phased approach also improved campus entrances and built on the college’s extensive collection of native plants.
